As It Used to be in Grand Rapids
Author: SDP40F600

Until October 2014, Amtrak served Grand Rapids, Michigan, through this station just off Wealthy Street near downtown. In this photogaph, it is a Saturday morning in June 1995. The Chicago-bound Pere Marquette is arriving at the depot during a deadhead move from elsewhere in the city. The train originates here so it is empty except for the crew members. Amtrak now uses the Vernon J. Ehlers station on Century Avenue SW.

I remember catching the A.C. job on the Pere Marquette off the board when I worked zone 4 in the 80's out of Chicago. The crew dropped me off to sell tickets at this small depot ( we had a key for it) then got our train from the C&O yard and spotted it up at the platform . We also laid over at the Amway Grand Plaza-- neat job!
