Passenger Trains > Tardy and Expanded #6

The Amtrak website this morning showed that the eastbound California Zephyr was over six hours late and wouldn't be into Lincoln, NE until around 10 or so this morning.  Got a tip from a friend that there were 4 motors on the point and in addition to the regular train, there would be 5 cars from the ski train tacked onto the rear.  The ski train had its final run of the season this last weekend. Carol had a knee replacement surgery 3 weeks ago yesterday so I haven't strayed far from the house for other than meds and appointments for a while.  REALLY didn't want to pass this move up even if it was a gloomy day! After groveling and pleading, she gave me a pass to get these shots just east of Waverly, NE around 11 this morning. Power was Amtrak 11, 87, 150, and 3 with a 17 car train.  The last 3 cars have the Century Link wrap on them.

Looks like they are putting the hammer down in pics 1&2 with the "clean" exhaust coming out of the stacks!

Nice shots, Tom!  It's a shame the Zephyr doesn't look like this (train length) all the time.

I imagine the 406 was sent back west. Those with any information please share.

It used to be this long -- and longer -- when the Desert Wind and Pioneer were part of its operation between Chicago and Salt Lake City.
