HHP-8's How many in service?
Author: floridajoe2001

Does anyone know how many HHP-8's are in service, and on what trains are they being operated?

Any run through to Boston?

Thanks.

Of the 8 HHP-8's conditionally certified, Amtrak's typical introduction is usually in Keystone Service between 30th Street Philadelphia and NYP. That usually lasts a week or two... then the unit is introduced into general pool service. They can be seen in any service from Metroliners through Acela Regionals to Bean Town.

Since certification testing is based in Philadelphia, it is not unusual to see these units and the AX sets running as "test extra's" both north and south of Philadelphia... usual weekday testing occuring between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with more night operations.

Who foots the bill for that?

Bombardier should reimburse us for the wear and tear on track, equipment, extra man-hours, that would've otherwise been unnecessary if this stuff were running OK from the beginning.
