Mail Train #10
Author: jack_deasy

A friend, who is knowledgeable on NEC matters, tells me that Amtrak is thinking about consolidating the northbound Twilight Shoreliner (#66) and mail train #10 into a single consist to save some money.

What is the schedule of mail train 10?

I assume #10 originates in Washington. Where does it terminate - New York, Springfield, or Boston?

Mail 10 originates in Washington, DC at 7:00 PM and arrives at Springfield, MA around 2 or 3 AM. If they consolidate the two trains into one, it would have to be split at New Haven.

It seems to rumble thru Windsor Locks around 2:15, fairly consistantly, so I would say Springfied around 2:30ish. Mail 13 comes south thru Windsor Locks at 4am on the dot, everytime. I must say that it is the most on time train I know of.

Boy sounds like Penn Central Days as trains were thinned on the corridor. Maybe Mail #10 will be a huge string of MHC and other such things trailed by a coach and a snack bar coach. Train discontinuances; a sound from the 60's
