Amtrak Bear and Wilmington shops question
Author: CharlesVarnes

Is the Amtrak Wilmington, DE, shop the only locomotive heavy repair shop on the system? Does it maintain electric locomotives only? If so, where do diesel electric locomotives receive heavy repairs?

What types of car repairs are performed at the Bear, DE, shops?

Beech Grove is the heavy locomotive shop for the P42DC, P40DC, P32AC-DM, B32-8WH and whatever switchers get sent there...

I think the eastern shops handle the electrics and whatever switchers are used on the east

Bear and Wilmington hadle all heavy repair for the NEC. They\'ve done the AEM-7 rebuilds and the Amfleet refurbishments. I\'m not sure if the do heavy repair to single-level long distance equipment though.

Beech Grove is the back shop for diesel locomotives, superliners, viewliners, mail, and heritage cars.

Wilmington is the back shop for electric locomotives, and any work train, and switcher diesels used in the NEC. It is also the shop for MW work equipment.

Bear is the back shop for all the Amfleet I and II fleets.
