Passenger Trains > Dallas to ChicagoDate: 04/29/03 08:55 Dallas to Chicago Author: KB5WK I have a trade show convention in Chicago that I plan to attend on June 23 & 24, 2003.
Wanting to try riding Amtrak for the first time in my life and went to there website to find an fare with a sleeper for $584.00 with a 25% disc on a promotion for $438.00 Does that sound right? Can I get a better deal if I call Amtrak? David Hawkins Plano Texas Date: 04/29/03 11:15 Re: Dallas to Chicago Author: zenu Sounds right. If the sleepers are close to being sold out the price can be rather high.

Effective June 8, only one sleeper will be on this train. The sleeper Chicago - San Antonio will not operate on days of the through Los Angeles sleeper. This is part of the "New Texas Eagle" quality service. A new service "Value Sleeper" will soon be programed, selling 8 standard rooms in the Dorm car, at a much less price, but without meals or beverage servi e. While I understand people\'s attraction to the diner, I can take it or leave it - it\'s very good food, but I\'m just not a big eater. I\'m just as happy snacking. But I do like a little privacy and a real bed. I\'d like to see this value sleeper idea take off. It probably shouldn\'t be the only option, but it\'s a good choice for people like me. Let\'s just say that it\'s the "Death of the Texas Eagle" instead! Date: 04/29/03 18:42 Re: Dallas to Chicago Author: czephyr17 <<A new service "Value Sleeper" will soon be programed>>
Sounds like sort of a reincarnation of the popular Slumbercoach concept from the late 1950\'s. I hope it catches on too. You can fly for far cheaper and much quicker.....I\'d love to take trains for all of my business trips but the cost outweighs the time....everytime.
