Well, the former FCCM line to Merida never really stopped operating (save for a few weeks when Gennesse & Western pulled out). The government has stepped in to continue running the line under the name of Ferrocarril Istmus de Tehuantepec (FIT). Although I have not been there to see FIT's operations first hand, I underatand that they are now running daily turns between Merida and Coatzacoalcos.

As far as clong-term operations, it is speculated that the lines will be reconsesioned.

There are several other conversations about this line with good information on the International forum.

Nate,

That's just great.

Now let's see what's up for the Arriaga, Chiapas, MEX - Tecun Uman, Guatemala line.

Hi,

Any updates since 2008? Curious if trains are still running?

Tom

To from the Ferrosur interchange all the way to Valladolid, Yucatan! Never stop, FIT is still the operator.

The ITSMO line from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz is fully operable end-to-end.

The line from Ixtepec, Oax to Arriaga, Chiapas is fully operable. Arriaga, Chiapas to Guatemala is still slowly being repaired, but it hasn't been left without paying atention to the damage.
