International Railroad Discussion > Yucatan railroad updatesDate: 04/05/08 14:46 Yucatan railroad updates Author: ben have they started any mow work on the rail line from merida to campeche in the yucatan in mexico and will this be operated as a shortline?
Date: 04/07/08 10:48 Re: Yucatan railroad updates Author: NdeM Well, the former FCCM line to Merida never really stopped operating (save for a few weeks when Gennesse & Western pulled out). The government has stepped in to continue running the line under the name of Ferrocarril Istmus de Tehuantepec (FIT). Although I have not been there to see FIT's operations first hand, I underatand that they are now running daily turns between Merida and Coatzacoalcos.
As far as clong-term operations, it is speculated that the lines will be reconsesioned. There are several other conversations about this line with good information on the International forum. Nate Date: 04/08/08 11:07 Re: Yucatan railroad updates Author: SBC_1344 natemuhl Wrote:

Now let's see what's up for the Arriaga, Chiapas, MEX - Tecun Uman, Guatemala line. Date: 01/07/10 11:01 Re: Yucatan railroad updates Author: tvh25 Hi,

The ITSMO line from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz is fully operable end-to-end. The line from Ixtepec, Oax to Arriaga, Chiapas is fully operable. Arriaga, Chiapas to Guatemala is still slowly being repaired, but it hasn't been left without paying atention to the damage. |
