Could this loco be Chinese? Any idea of the type and user?

Thank you for any guesses and knowledge!

John

Certainly looks Chinese. Vietnam has a similar model, their D19e class. Built in China by the Gia Lam Workshop, with a Caterpillar prime mover.

The #2101 in Hindu-Arabic numerals appears under the windshield and it has a "Coupling Socket" (a British term?) and some unused pipes. Gerry

The cabside logo is of the Sudan Railways Corporation.

Sudan Railways, lightweight loco for rail in the south

SDD1A with Cat 3512B, C-C, 81 metric tonnes

Roll down through this document to "Export Record 6" http://lawrenceavenue.org/download/CSR_ziyang.pdf

Above doc is out of date, there are more than 8 in Sudan, Do not equate the loco in the photo with the SDD1 which has a Cat 3516B, and weighs 99 tonnes

Ignore the crap about CSR building reliable locomotives, they don't, which is why they need Chinamen in the Sudan to keep them running http://www.csrgc.com.cn/ens/xwzx/2011-08-23/4986.shtml

Jack thanks for that link I had forgotten all about that site! I've read some pretty mixed reports about the reliability of these locos.
