One would assume that after years of steam like this,
there's little left to catch on fire trackside! Great film
to watch and hear.

I saw this on the UP 328 (2-8-0) many times at North Topeka, while switching the freight house lead just about sundown. (about 1945 - 1954). WAG216.

Wow!!!! I never even bother to think what a coal fired steam locomotive working hard would look like at night, now I know. Now I need a time machine so I can go visit Sherman Hill in the late 40's and stay all night. ;^D

I think what you see here is an improperly maintained steam engine working at night. Anything close to that stretch of track that could burn probably has already burned down.
