Here's a highly interesting website about a couple of guys who rode a souped-up hy-rail vehicle over a bunch of abandoned rail lines in Mexico and Equador.

Abandoned SW1500 in Huixtla in 2012. This line through Chiapas is slowly being rebuilt.
