Some Recent Downunder Pictures

Hi all,

It has been a while due to being busy plus having a six week holiday in Europe. So here are some pictures from the last four months.

1. GWA owned Goodwin/Alco DL531's in the form of 841 and 844 are in charge of 1151 empty limestone train near their destination of the Penrice Quarry near Angaston in South Australia. This broad gauge service ceased to run in June and was the last broad gauge freight to run in South Australia. 4/1/14.

2. The now loaded train, 1152 rolls down the 2.2% grade out of the quarry around Plush's Corner. These DL531's are powered by an Alco 6-251B engine.

3. 1152 passes through Nuriootpa yard.

1. 1152 passes Tanunda station.

2. 1152 comes out of the dip at Jacobs Creek.

3. 1152 approaches the old Lyndoch station yard.

1. 1152 heads out of Lyndoch.

2. 1152 rolls downgrade through Gawler East.

3. 3142 loaded Loxton grain waits at Karoonda in South Australia behind GM42, 2216, 705 on 4/5/14.

The next lot.

1. Pacific National steel service, 6WP2 rounds the large curve at Callington in SA behind NR118, NR82, AN6 on 4/6/14.

2. Clyde/EMD JT46C (SD60), AN6 on 6WP2 which had just been overhauled and had the paint touched up.

2. 6WP2 at Nairne.

1. 8370 light engine transfer to Islington with CM3310, CM3309, EL62, CM3308 at Mt. Lofty, SA on 4/28/14.

2 & 3. 8370 at Belair.

1. CFCLA owned, Motive Power built MP33C no. CM3308. These are powered by a 3300hp Cummins QSK78-18.

2. Cab side of CM3310 showing its Boise, MPI builders plate.

3. Goninan/GE CM30-8 unit no. EL62.

1. 8370 rolls downgrade through Hawthorn.

2. Pacific National service, 3MP7 with NR112, NR1, NR73 passes through Islington on 5/14/14.

3. Pacific National shunt unit, PL1 passes the Adelaide Freight Terminal at Islington on 5/14/14. This Goodwin/Alco DL531 receivced a chopped nose and new cab for driver only operations.

Next lot.

1. Adelaide Metro DMU railcars, 2109, 2010, 2114 arrive at Lilburn station on 5/14/14. These 32-34 year old railcars are just in their final year of service.

2. CM3310, CM3309 as D189 light engine cross the Port River bridge at Port Adelaide on 5/14/14.

3. 1417 Patrick Portlink service with CM3309, CM3310 crosses the Port River bridge on 5/14/14.

Next lot.

1. Goodwin/Alco DL541, no. 607 sits at Islington Workshops having been recently retired and stripped of parts on 5/18/14. This 1965 built unit now awaits the scrappers torch.

2. GWA owned Clyde/EMD A16C's, GM38 and GM46 await their next turn of duty at the Dry Creek MPC on 5/18/14.

1. 1351 empty grain with 2212, GM40 awaits to loaded at its destination of Pinnaroo in SA on 5/27/14.

2. Aurizon service, 3MP1 passes through Islington behind 6029, LDP007, 6008 on 5/30/14.

3. GWA empty grain, 1351 to Pinnaroo passes through the town of Parilla behind 2210, 705, 701 on 6/2/14.

1. 3152 loaded grain with 701, 705, 2210 heads away from Pinnaroo on 6/2/14.

2. 3152 at Chandos.

3. 3152 passes an old goods crane at Parilla.
