Are there no standard Whistle/Horn signals in Australia and New Zealand? From personal observation in NZ it would appear that drivers sound their horns whenever there's nothing else to do -- just single, halfhearted bleats. In the US, grade crossings get a definite sequence of XXXXXX - XXXXXX - XXX -XXXXXXX (and often the final one is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX). It's mandatory. 66 Date: 08/07/14 06:38 Re: Downunder Video Author: cabman The one thing that made me think we were in the U.S. was the huge amount of graffiti on all the cars. You have those "artists" down under too, huh?
Date: 08/07/14 09:48 Re: Downunder Video Author: Poker2662 Nice video... but I don't understand, why isn't the video upside down?
:) Date: 08/07/14 11:52 Re: Downunder Video Author: wingomann Great video. You must be a tourist promoter. I much rather be trackside in Australia than be in my office right now.

Winston Hill Date: 08/07/14 16:29 Re: Downunder Video Author: unclebob Love all the different tones on the horns!
Mike Date: 08/07/14 18:41 Re: Downunder Video Author: ChrisCampi Thanks for the tour Justin. Very interesting country side and some beautiful skies.
Chris Date: 08/07/14 20:51 Re: Downunder Video Author: k_falls71 Nice footage. Judging by the smoke on the 2nd green unit on the grain/chemical train, it must be an ALCo product...
Date: 08/08/14 04:32 Re: Downunder Video Author: AussieGWAdriver Thanks everyone.
Answers to the questions. We have no set whistle codes in Australia. One of the trains uses the old South Australian whistle code of xxxxxx-x-xxxxxx in the video. Graffiti is a major problem down here. Most lines have fencing either side as they run past farms or through towns, housing etc. Only out in the desert is there really no fences. The two units in the first scene are Goodwin/Alco DL531's powered by a 6-251B. The other green unit, 705 later in the video in two scenes behind G&W orange 701 are both Goodwin/Alco DL500G's powered by a 2000hp 12-251C. 701 was only overhauled and repainted earlier this year by G&W. Not bad for a 43 year old Alco. 705 was overhauled in 2012 but not repainted. Cheers, Justin Date: 08/09/14 09:53 Re: Downunder Video Author: PHall cabman Wrote:
