Some Recent Downunder Pictures

Hi all,

Well its that time again for some recent shots from downunder now I have some free time.

1. GWA intermodal service, 3DA2 waits in the siding at Ferguson behind GWU002, ALF21 on 10/9/14.

2. SCT service 1PM9, waits in the siding at Kultanaby in South Australia behind SCT013, SCT012 on 10/21/14.

3. Aurizon service 3PM1 with 6012, 6004, X54 has just exited Sleeps Hill tunnel in the Adelaide Hills, SA on 10/23/14.

Next lot.

1 & 2. GWA unit, 2210 waits at Katherine in the Northern Territory with a track recording/inspection train on 10/28/14.

3. 1AD8 The Ghan arrives at Katherine behind freshly repainted units NR74, NR109 on 10/28/14.

Next lot.

1 & 2. 1AD8 crossing AK82 track inspection train at Katherine. 10/28/14.

3. Goodwin/ Alco DL531 no. 831 awaits its future at Dry Creek in Adelaide, S.A on 10/29/14. This broad gauge (5ft 3) unit had been shunting a soda ash plant for a number of years which has since closed.

Next lot.

1. Pacific National service, 3PM7 has just exited the Sleeps Hill tunnel behind NR13, NR110 on 10/30/14.

2. Right behind 3PM7 was Aurizon service 3PM1 hauled by 6004, 6012, X53 on 10/30/14.

3. Espee Rail Services unit 44s1, former SAR/AN 961 at Islington Workshops in Adelaide, S.A. 10/31/14. The Goodwin/Alco DL500B still carries its former Australian National Explorer livery.

Next lot.

1 & 2. The ARTC/RIC owned track inspection train done a trip over GWA's Mallee branch line to Pinnaroo on 11/2/14. 2216 and 2212 were the power for the train which had the train number of AK81. It is seen departing Tailem Bend which is the start of the line.

3. Passing through the first siding out at Peake.

Next lot.

All of AK81.

1. Passing the old siding of Jabuk.

2. Passing through the trees at Lameroo.

3. Passing the fourth siding on the line of Parilla.

Next lot.

All AK81 again.

1. At Chandos.

2. Near the end of the current line just east of Pinnaroo almost right on the South Australian/ Victorian border.

3. The train pushing back through the Pinnaroo township to the siding.

Next lot.

1. Pushing back through Pinnaroo.

2. Now as train AK82 with 2212 leading 2216, the train passes the old goods crane at Parilla on the return journey.

3. AK82 passes through the trees at Lameroo which is the third siding along the line at present.

Next lot.

1. The train passes through Parrakie and a little plaque celebrating 100 years of the line in 2006.

2. The train passes through Geranium which is the second siding along the line.

3. The train passes through Jabuk.

Next lot.

1. The train passes through Peake.

2. The train passes through the site of the former siding at Moorlands.

3. I left the train on the branch line and headed to Murray Bridge to catch PN service, 6WP2 with NR23, NR31, NR43 crossing the Murray River bridge on 11/2/14.

Next lot.

1. With the branch line tour over, AK82 returned to Adelaide as it had done the Loxton branch line the previous day. It is seen crossing the Murray River bridge at Murray Bridge.

2. AK82 rounds the big curve at Callington.

3. AK82 passes through Mt. Barker Jct.

Next lot.

1. AK82 waits in the siding at Mt. Lofty while PN service 3PM7 with NR56, NR71 tops the 2.2% grade in a cloud of sand dust on 11/2/14.

2. AK82 rounds the corner leading into Belair where it went into the siding and I gave up chase after nearly 11 hours with it.

3. Aurizon service, 6PM1 rounds the same corner but looking in the other direction at Belair behind 6008, 6029, 6006, X53 on 11/2/14.

Next lot.

1. GWA's four broad gauge 830 class Goodlwin/ Alco DL531's, 831, 844, 841 and 843 at Dry Creek on 11/3/14.

2 & 3. Aurizon service, 2MP1 with 6004, 6012, X54 nears the top of the 2.2% grade at Mt. Lofty on 11/11/14.

Next lot.

1. Right behind 2MP1 was SCT service 2MP9 with SCT003, SCT009 at the same location.

2. 2MP9 heads down grade as it is about to enter the Sleeps Hill tunnel.

3. An inline fuel wagon and a crew car near the rear of the train on 2MP9 coming back from maintenance in Melbourne, Victoria.

Next lot.

1. Right behind 2MP9 was PN service 2MP5 with the colourful combination of NR62, NR75 in the new Ghan livery and NR18 in its one off Indian Pacific livery seen as the train is about to enter the Sleeps Hill tunnel.

2. Looking the other way, we see PN service 7PM5 exit the Sleeps Hill tunnel with NR77, NR5 on 11/11/14.

3. Freshly overhauled and repainted GWA unit, CLF5 awaits its first run since completion at Dry Creek with 701 and 2207 on 11/11/14.

Next lot.

1. PN service 3MP5 with NR78, NR31, NR81 passes through Bolivar on 11/12/14.

2. Aurizon service, 2PM1 passes through Bishops Loop in Adelaide behind 6026, 6022 on 11/12/14.

3. Returning in its first run since overhaul. CLF5 leads 703 and 2207 on 4112 loaded grain train from Port Pirie in South Australia as it heads just south of the Mallala township on 11/12/14.

Next lot.

1. 4112 passes through Bolivar.

2 & 3. The power has cut off from their train in Dry Creek North yard in Adelaide.

Last lot.

1. The power off 4112 heads back to the servicing facility. Guess which one is an Alco.

2. GWA units 703 and 2212 load a grain train at Pinnaroo in South Australia on 11/16/14.

Another fine collection of photos. Having just returned from a trip to NSW / QLD, it is good to see these. Must try for this area next. Chris uk.
