Ushuaia is also the end of the Pan-American highway and there are signs all around the town proclaiming the End of the World. It is quite a bit further south of Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Actually seeing Cape Horn on a good day (January or mid-summer there) with 45 MPH winds, 45 degrees, and 25-foot seas give one pause to think of the sailors of yesteryear trying to beat around the southern end of the Americas. And author Richard White argued in his book Railroaded that building the Pacific Railroad from Omaha to Sacramento was foolish because goods could be sailed to New York for less money! If he had seen Cape Horn or ever been out on a sailboat I doubt he would think that. Date: 12/23/14 01:09 Re: "Train at the End of the World"- 2 Author: Milepost_130 Incredible! Thanks for posting.
