Locomotives resting at the Chiayi City Garage Park Shays 25 and 26 appear to be operational. https://goo.gl/maps/lgk4C Fenqihu track and tarp covered equipment. Because of damage sustained during a 2009 typhoon, the railroad's small passenger trains only run halfway up the mountain to the station at Fenqihu. The Alishan Station at the top is no longer accessible from Chiayi. I am not sure what was beneath the blue and white tarps, but I suspected they concealed some damaged rolling stock. This antique railway with its link and pin couplers has had several fatal incidents and a hit from Typhoon Morakot that threatens its existence. The Alishan Forest Railway and the images of its small red trains passing beneath blossoming fruit trees is a common image on area produce packages.
