Shibukawa
Author: Railpax71

Shibukawa is the junction of the Agatsuma and Joetsu lines in Gunma, Japan.

1. The limited express from Ueno is arriving at Shibukawa bound for Nakanojo and the bus connection to Kusatsu Onsen.
2. Departing Shibukawa on the Agatsuma line to the left.
3. Track number one has a local train on the Joetsu line bound for Minakami. Track 2 has a heritage trainset from Nakanojo bound for Takasaki off the Agatsuma line on the Joetsu.

Thanks Railpax71 for sharing these interesting looks from Japan!

How fast can the Limited Express EMU run on those narrow gauge tracks?

Top speed of the 651 series Hitachi (Limited Express) is 130km/hr. Highest speed limit I could find is 120km/hr about 75 mph. The old narrow gauge South Pacific Coast, according to the MacGregor book attained speeds of 70 mph on the tide flats.

Thanks for the report! I believe Series 107 is on Track 1, the generic EMU in this territory. Nice contrast with the Series 115 in Shonan colors.

- Shibuka is normally a quiet tourist town with a handful of hot springs nearby, but the station becomes a zoo when steam locomotives show up. Brown train set in the distance to the right is the Joyful Train "Resort Yamadori."

- I used your location to get across the other side of the station for this shot of the C61 20.
