Kozuke Railway
Author: Railpax71

Kozuke build a narrow gauge line 762 mm (2 ft 6 in) Takasaki, Gunma, Japan to Shimonita in 1897. The line eventually "standard" gauged to 1080 and electrified. Principal freight traffic was silk cocoons and silk from the mills at Tomioka.

1. Route 195. A wide spot in one of the narrower roads I have driven in Japan. The sign points downhill to the location of the historic bridge.
2. The 1897 bridge currently used to access TEPCO facilities farther up the canyon.
3. Current Joshin Electric Railway tracks next to the historic bridge.

Historic pictures attached at the bridge site showing the original route and train crossing the Onigasawa bridge.

That's very cool, a former railroad bridge surviving for another purpose.

Last October while visiting Japan, I remember seeing more and more railroad history/archaeology related books for sale in big name bookstores like Kinokuniya.
