Chile, Santiago to Temuco Tour Train
Author: PERichardson

Last night the last tour/nostaglia train of the season left Santiago southbound for Temuco. It appeared to be about half full, but both auto carriers were full. The diners (2) looked quite nice, not sure what the menu included. Photos:

1. Ready for its 8:45 pm departure. The electric will come off at Chillan where the catenary ends. From there to Temuco, the two GE/Alco shovel nose diesels will take over. The car behind the electric is a spacer to spread the weight on bridges. The electric is one of the Italian-built E32s, the only operable one EFE has. Freight operator Fepasa has four used on freight trains between Santiago and Chillan.

2. The new EFE brand for these types of operations.

3. Diner looks cozy through the window.

4. Train backing into the station. The last car is an auto carrier that now has a large diesel generator mounted inside to provide electricity to the train. The two auto carriers are at the front end of the train.

5. One of the coaches

6. Alameda station, Santiago, at 8:30 pm

I was in Chile during the operation this year, but didn't know far enough in advance to book anything. Do you know of a good way to learn of their 2016 trips so that i can plan my next trip around it?
