Next lot.

1. 2182 climbs the final grade into Mt. Lofty. With the modern AC traction GE and two modern DC EMD's all heavily muffled working with the 1971 vintage Alco you can guess which made the most noise.

2. 2182 rolls through Belair.

3. Last shot of 2182 as it heads through the Adelaide suburb of Unley Park.

And lastly we have 1351 empty Pinnaroo grain with GM43, GM42, 2214, CLF6 as it heads through Hawthorn on 3/29/15. The GM's are in their final months of service now with two used as shunt locomotives and three in mainline use on grain. Three others have been stored this year already. The last of these were built in 1967.

Enjoy.

If you're interested in Australian rail photos RailPage Australia, which is the Australian version of Trainorders, has a Flickr page here -

https://www.flickr.com/groups/railpage/pool/

Currently the Flickr page shows 51,028 pictures.

I've always been interested in railroads down under as they're a mix of US style equipment and British operating practices.

Thanks everyone and here are a couple more pictures I got this morning.

2. PN service, 6PM6 passes through Bridgewater hauled by 9301 and NR74 on 3/30/15. 9301 is a UGL/GE C44ACi while NR74 is a Goninan/GE Cv40-9i. What you could say is a AC4400 and a C40-9.

Cheers,
Justin

Am I correct in these units having about 2500 hp and lighter weight than American units ? Possibly 150 tons.

The highest powered units in these photos are 93 and GWU class locomotives built by UGL/GE. They are 4400hp AC traction units and weigh 134 metric tons with only 7,500 litres of fuel to allow them to run at 110km/h on the main lines. With a full tank of fuel - 12,500 litres they weigh 139t. The NR class are a UGL/GE 4000hp DC unit (132t). The FQ's are a EDI/EMD 3850hp DC unit (133t). The lightest units seen on many photos are the 2000hp 22 class which weigh 110t. Of course the lightest unit pictured is 903, the Goodwin/ Alco DL531 which is powered by a 950hp, 6-251B and they only weigh 74t.

Cheers,
Justin
