Oil trains in New Delhi, 1990
Author: lee_uintah

The first clip shows an oil train meeting another freight.  The second clip shows two oil trains, one diesel powered, the other electric.  Location is by the Railway Museum in New Delhi, India, December 15, 1990.  Watch for more diesel, and some steam, to appear next!

India has never been self sufficient, and continues to import oil from wherever it can get it.  Some supplies have come from Iraq, and from other Gulf states, and India was also trying to set up some routes to get oil from Iran.
So lots of oil is imported. Once in the country, the best way to move oil is by rail tank car.  Rail rules the roost.

Great stuff. I really enjoy this type video. It's interesting to see how railroads in foreign countries
operate.

Interesting to note that the oil cars have only four wheels per car while the freight cars seen later in the video have the normal eight wheel trucks . . . thinking due to the short length of the oil cars . . .?

Nice stuff!  That looks like the same overpass I was at in 2008.  Caught video of WB coal train and EB boxcar train, both with electrics.
