International Railroad Discussion > Easter Sunday Steam trips in SydneyDate: 03/27/16 15:39 Easter Sunday Steam trips in Sydney Author: Stephenloco Transport Heritage NSW offered 5 short steam hauled excursion services in Sydney on Easter Sunday. The services ran between Sydney's Central and Rhodes stations on Sydney's Northern line, a return trip of around an hour.
Outbound trips were hauled by steam locomotive #3642, built by Clyde Engineering, Sydney in 1926. On the rear was diesel HL203, (the former 42203), another Clyde Engineering product built under licence from EMD in 1969. To allow for a quick turnaround at Rhodes, HL203 hauled the trains back to Central. In the attached video, the first trip of the day passes through North Strathfield at 10.16am. What can be just seen at the right is the exit of the freight bypass for southbound trains, normally only used by freight & empty stock moves.
