Loaded Leigh Creek Coal Train Video
Author: AussieGWAdriver

Hi all,

Some video footage of the loaded Leigh Creek coal train on 4/11/2016. The 82 class are Clyde-GM built model JT42C. Pretty much an SD59 but they have a large exhaust silencer.

Enjoy,
Justin

Terrific video. Thanks.

I loved the immense power those locomotives projected.

I like this video. I especially like that you captioned the locations. Looking at Google Maps it looks like the beginning and end points are approximately 82 kilometers apart. How fast was the train going, and how how fast did you have to go?

Thanks everyone.

The line from Stirling North to Leigh Creek is about 245km (152 miles) long. You can only follow the line easily for the last 100km (62 miles) or so. The rest of is is via dirt roads and they leave the line for a while.

As for the train it travels at around 80km/h (50 mph) on the empty and loaded. On the empty it spends most of the trip at this speed. The road speed out there is 110km/h (68 mph) so it is not too hard to chase.

Cheers,
Justin
