Steam action at North Strathfield (Sydney)
Author: Stephenloco

Yesterday there were two steam hauled excersion services travelling from Sydney's Central Station to Hawkabury River & Gosford, north of Sydney. Unfortunately, the planned side by side running through North Strathfield failed to happen, with the trains swapping tracks at North Strathfield junction, so trains followed one after the other.

The first train was hauled by loco #5917, which was built in the United States by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) entering service on 12 March 1953. It is now operated by Lachlan Valley Railway.

The second was hauled by loco #3642, which was built in 1926 by Clyde Engineering in Sydney, again for NSWGR. It is now operated by Transport Heritage NSW.

Excellent. It just shows it can be done without diesel assist, safety vests in the cab, and unmatched equipment that are the hallmark of steam specials in the U.S.

The catenary system, and the dress code of some passengers DO NOT comply with the "authenticity" needed to make this a great photograph, no? Or do you have nitpicking double standards even you can't comply with?

Other than that, I agree with the first word you blurted out, excellent video!  Thanks, Stephenloco for posting this and the Concord West video clips from Down Under.

An interesting point in relation to the catenary; the line here was originally electrified in 1926! (The line opened in 1886 I believe)

One of many chronic complainers. Never anything positive.
