International Railroad Discussion > Australian ALCO Locomotives - 44 class dieselsDate: 10/16/16 01:54 Australian ALCO Locomotives - 44 class diesels Author: Stephenloco Whilst the majority of locomotives at the recent "Streamliners 2016" event were Clyde-EMD "bulldogs", ALCO also had a representative - The New South Wales Government Railway's 44 class. Whilst 3 were represented at the event, 4477, 4486 & 4490, a fourth, 4464, was operating excursions from the nearby Goulburn station.
A total of 100 44 class were built by the Australian ALCO licensee, AE Goodwin in the Sydney suburb of Auburn between 1957 & 1967. 4464 entered service in January 1966 Below are some shots of 4464 at Goulburn station , on Sunday 02 October, prior to the first excursion of the day. It seems that we could use a couple pair of trucks (or more) for the pair of preserved PAs in the USA! They are scrapping the 44-Class in Australia, aren't they?
