Chinese Train ... in Africa?
Author: Highspeed

A locomotive lettered for the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation sits on the new Djibouti - Ethiopia rail line as I pass by. This appears to be associated with Maintenance-of-Way operations. Can anyone identify the type & horsepower of this locomotive?

BTW, this is on the portion east of the Nagad, Djibouti station, where electrification stops and continues to the port as an all diesel-powered line.

There was a news article one month ago that announced the line was to open in October. Yes, there are still 6 days left, but I have yet to see a single moving piece of equipment here on the Djibouti end of the line. Anyone got eyes-on in Addis Ababa?

Nice pic, Mike! Looks like the power that replaced the QJ's on the JiTong, but more likely a much later model (that's been almost 11 years ago, now!).

From photos from several sources, including Facebook, CCECC appears to have had DF4D 418-008, 009, 011 in Djibouti - Ethiopia
They also used at least 2 CKD2

Other Chinese track construction contractors are using DF4, Work forward and backward from page 30, probably a hundred or so photos of locos in Ethiopia
