25KPH might be too quick
Author: ajgreen

Hi all.

A quick photo taken South of Ward (Marlborough) showing the damage to the track after the 7.8 Mag earthquake that rattled the top half of the South Island on the 14th Nov 2016. Image was taken yesterday 4th December, with the rail network out of action for quite sometime.

Last photo showing the crossing loop at Taimate.

Allister

Thanks God no train was running in this section at that time.

WOW,

Allister the photo images are excellent and scary at the same time.
If the Car Talk guys Click and Clack saw this they would say that's
definetely "BUTTS UGLY" railroad track.
Certainlyglad no one was operating in revenue service or MOW at the time of the earthquake.

Sure looks like a lot of old photos taken shortly after the 1906 San Francisco quake, though digital is sure better.

The damage shown in these pictures is not that bad. A little work with a front end loader and a pass or two with a Tramper should do the job.
It's the areas that had the land slips and bridge damage where you'll have your work cut out for ya.

Nah, just have the largest framed steam loco slowly go through. Straighten those curves right out....

Thanks for the pics.  Do they have a timetable for when they expect to resume freight service at least.  I read where the Tranz Coastal passenger service is suspended for the season.
