VLI is testing a new type of open top hoppers for Phosphate ore. Here are some pics of them.

1 - Train W910 leaded by Ge U20C 2542 and 2681 with GE BB40-9W 6038 in tow passing by EVP yard with two HAE class hoppers. Each one has a different kind of internal coating. The first tests showed that the phosphate ore is not so easy to unload in this type of cars, so they applyed a kind of special painting inside to easy the unloading process.

 2 - Note the plain sheet metal in this car;

Weed control must not be a high priority on that railroad.    The difference of size is the engines is remarkable.

Hi, chemical weed control is prohibited in urban areas or near water sources here, like rivers and lakes. So, in the raining season the weed uses to grow up fast.

Thanks Pedro.  A lot of U.S. railroads had "weed burners" they used before they started using chemicals. But that was about 60 years ago.  It looks like that would be helpful in your country.

Hi, after the end of raining season (January), we will have a dry season and most of the weed will die. So, it is time to crew remove the weed in the yard using hand tools. I think it won't be a good a idea to use wood burners because the fire can scape to other areas near the tracks.

Most US railroads have found chemical solutions that meet EPA (Enviornment Protection Agency) standards even in urban areas. But our new 'President' wants to do away with the EPA so maybe we can get that grassy look soon since why spend $$$ on weed control if you do not have to? We can return to the way many of our rail lines looked in the 1960's. Factually, weed control is very important on heavy duty railroads for drainage purposes.
