Heavy rains pruduced some track wash out in Brazil
Author: pedrop

Hi, December and January usually to be months marked by heavy rains in the Northeast of Brazil.  This December was not different. We had some wash out and mud slide in the many locations. Here are some pics:

Pics 1 to 3 - An empty ore train derail when faced the tracks washed out  by the water of a smal dam that was destroyed by the heavy rains in the border of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais states. The traffic opened today morning

I bet the eyes of the engine crew got REAL BIG before the engine finally stopped.

Another derail happened with MRS in the same week. This one close to my home town. The last engine stopped on the tracks. The first two passed when the rain were taking the fill away. Another lucky  crew.

When I see something like that last image, with the locomotive and the track suspended over the void, I can't help but think of all the rail defects I have seen.
One little flaw in the rail or the weld would be enough to result in everything being down in the mud.
Thanks for posting.

Hi, today morning a big wall  fell over the tracks due to heavy rains near P1-14 yard. The MoW inspection car collided with the mud slide as we can see in the pics. Nobody injuried. The loaded trains were sent to  Centro line, that is used by empties only in normal days.

Wonder if they run inspections ahead to look for this stuff?
