"Red Car" ride ..down under fashion
Author: bakersfielddave

a few weeks ago i traveled to Sydney ,Australia to participate in a vintage 1927 era electric train tour

it used part of the subway system as well

these are not  street interurban trolleys but purpose built commuter  heavy rail train sets dating back some  90 years

in some ways they resemble  the old PE  of Los Angeles   and perhaps other MU cars like the Pennsy MP54's

these cars may pre date some  of the PE trolleys i guess

Sydney and other Australian Trams,Trolley cars on the  same day

this museum would be  the ''Perris of Down Under'' to those who have been to the OERM

Located at Loftus soth of Sydney there i a lot  of info about it on he internet if you wish to know more

...also a brief look at Sydneys light rail as well

being footboard Trolleys you can see how the conductors collected fares  from outside, a dangerous job at times

also the day before there was a very rare Steam Tram being operated near Sydney i managed to see and ride

i dont think there are too many of these machines  operating in the 21st Century anywhere?

the restoration work is magnificent

this one burned wood and coal

Sydney and a few other Australian towns had many of these in service up till the 1940s

The traction motor whine about 1 minute in reminds me of the days going to the  Long Beach CA pike from Vernon Ave,.
