KG Date: 01/08/17 16:21 Re: VLI iron cast train (Brazil) Author: pedrop Well, here are some of the new SD70BB

It looks much more tight in there vs the standard height cabs. Is headroom really impacted?

EMD lowered these cabs at least two times. The first one about 12 cm, and later more 17 cm in the corners. In comparison to the normal SD70's in use here, they are really tight inside. zorz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks for cab pictures! They dropped the roof by 29cm though? Wow! That is a _big_ drop. Can these units now use the old ALL route to the coast that was previously restricted to GT22CU-2's? (I can't remember the name of the grade) pedrop Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes, but for people accostumed the work with > narrow gauge engines like U20C, U13, G12 and other > like them, these big SD70BB's have "huge" cabs. > EMD lowered these cabs at least two times. No, these units won´t be used at Serra do Mar (Sea hill) in the South. Rumo/ALL are using a GE version called ES43BBi there. It is a big locomotive with 200 tons, but it has a small cab. Pic enclosed. Pedro zorz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Fair point! The GE Export U-Boats are crazy > cramped inside. > > They dropped the roof by 29cm though? Wow! I thought the ES43BBi was for that section, but was curious if the SD70ACe-bb qualified. Would they use the GT46AC instead? (I know RUMO/ALL don't have the GT46AC, but was wondering if they're looking at it)
I'm curious how performance of these new units is. I think EMD seems pretty smart to have both the narrow-clearance C-C and larger BB-BB offerings. GE only sticking with one strikes me as a bit odd. pedrop Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi, the picture below can help you understand what > EMD did with the cab of these units. > No, these units won´t be used at Serra do Mar > (Sea hill) in the South. Quite cool to see inside something not from America. Keep em coming.
Michael Fair Royal Oak, MI Date: 01/17/17 03:48 Re: VLI iron cast train (Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, for while Rumo is buying only GE models in both narrow and broad gauge. The new Rumo CEO was GE CEO here, so we imagine he will never buy EMD to Rumo. But the government can force Rumo to buy some EMD since Rumo usually gets money from government to buy new locomotives. At this time, Rumo is using two SD70ACe Demonstrators in its broad gauge corridor in Sao Paulo, but there is no news about new orders for it.
EMD is planing to produce a new model to the companies substitute the GE U20C model, the new GT38ACe, a bit smaller than its sister GT46.
