Rode Myanmar Railways from Yangon to Bago this morning, before picking up our driver for the rest of the journey to Mawlamyine (Moulmein). Grabbed a few phone shots on the hour and 45 minute journey.

At 7:55 a bell rings in preparation for the departure of the 8:00 Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw, the country's new-ish capital. We left on time and arrived in Bago on schedule at 9:50.

The train consisted of eight cars, three upper class, four ordinary class and the guards van. This is ordinary class; basically wooden 2+2 seating.

And this is upper class, 2+1 upholstered reclining seats.

No air-conditioning, just open doors and windows. Double track, colour light signals around Yangon, semaphores at Bago. The track is jointed, the max speed is between 70 & 80 kph.

Nice pictures. I spent a month in Myanmar back in 2015 but for some reason I never went beyond Bago. I've heard Mawlamyine  is very nice.
You can't beat a Myanmar rail trip. Love to see pictures of Nay Pyi Taw, I passed through there but didn't have a chance to see the city. I've heard it's very Pyongyangish on a budget sort of place. Thanks again for the pictures.
