The DDM45 are back! (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, after some months stores at Vale mining shops in Tubarao, some of the DDM45's were put to work again. Today two trains arrived in my area leaded by DDM45's. Train C611 with containers and GDE class gondolas were leaded by units 825 and 833. Here are some pics of them.
in spite of the return of them to the job, Vale has plans to scrap them this year. In May, EMD SD70ACeBB's Demonstrators will start the tests at Vale system. If approved, the DDM45's will be sent to EMD plant for scrapping.

Sad news that the DDM45s are for the chop, seeing them in 2006 was a great thrill.

Great shots. So odd to see them next to those tiny GE's.

Any issues with the 4 axle rigid trucks wanting to spread the gauge in curves?

Yes, they are limited to mainline on fca and Vale. Some locations do not accept them. They were produced to Vale to work on mainline from Vitoria to Itabira.

Pedro,

What was the outcome of the tests? Have the DDM45's been sent to EMD for scrapping? Maybe it was covered in another thread I missed.

A friend in Vale told me the SD70BB will be tested for an year, but Vale accepted them and ordered some units that will be produced in early 2018. He also told me all the DDM45´s will be sent for scrapping at EMD plant as the SD70BB are delivered to Vale. So, 2018 can the the last year of operation of the famous DDM45´s.

I forgot to mention that Vale ordered four SD70BB to the passenger train that links Belo Horizonte to Vitoria.

Are those in addition to the previous locos ordered?

What are the SD70ACe-BB totals ordered and delivered now?

Hi, my area is served by dual gauge. MRS is broad gauge (1,600mm) and Vale and VLI are metric gauge (1,000mm).

Vale will test de Demonstrators units in the passenger train and ordered more two to the fleet of passenger train. It is what people are commenting here. They will have a different painting scheme.
