International Railroad Discussion > Hong Kong to Lo-Wu travelDate: 01/24/05 05:19 Hong Kong to Lo-Wu travel Author: lationasiding Hello,
Planning a trip to Shenzhen, I want to take the train from Hong Kong to Lo-Wu. Looks like the Kowloon-Canton Railway. Do I need anything other than my US Passport? Is Lo-Wu part of HK? For travel to HK from the USA I only need a US passport, but I'm not sure if that is sufficant for travel to Lo-Wu where my party will pick me up to go into Shenzhen. Thank you for any help! <http://www.kcrc.com/eng/services/services/index.asp> that Lo Wu is on the Hong Kong side, so I assume no border crossing is involved. But you will definitely need a Chinese visa to cross over to Shenzhen. RL Cabin Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/24/05 07:29 by RLcabin. I went to Hong Kong in 2003. And went for a train ride from Kowloon to Guangzhou formerly Canton in China Proper. I'm from the UK and I needed a visa to get into China from HK even Shenzhen. I didn't need a visa just for HK though. Lo Wu is in the 'New Territories' of Hong Kong so if you're in Hong Kong you can get to Lo Wu as it's the last stop on the commuter train from Kowloon. Shenzhen is across the heavily guarded border in what's known as 'Shenzhen Special Economic Zone', a few miles past this is the Guangdong province of China proper. The ride on to Guangzhou was quite amazing - I'd love to travel around China by train, however I think a Cantonese or Mandarin speaking friend would be useful!!! Make sure you check your visa requirements - but Lo Wu is still in HK but only just, Shenzhen is not. In case you've never been to HK before let me offer one piece of advice. If you arrive by air at Chek Lap Kok airport, take the airport express train into town. It calls at Kowloon and Central where from each station there is a FREE bus that conects all the major hotels. The train is very quick, cheap and user friendly. In fact in any city I've ever been in, I've never known such well organised public transport as Hong Kong - superb. Enjoy.
