PHP and MySQL for railfan sites
Author: donstrack

Someone I know is asking for help managing a railfan site that uses PHP and MySQL for photo albums. He kind of inherited the site and has no background in site management, and especially PHP and MySQL.

Is there anyone out there that can help us get a start up the learning curve?

PHP is not too difficult to learn if you're already familiar with
using a scripting or procedural language. Since Barnes & Nobel carries
a reasonably decent selection of PHP books, I'd suggest you start there.
You really need to look through the books to find something that works
for you.

As far as Mysql goes, so long as you have a reasonable knowledge of SQL,
it won't be too difficult. PHP has classes that work with most commonly
used RDBMS including PHP. They're fairly easy to use.

For detailed technical information for both MYSQL and PHP and their commands,
you're best off going to the online documentation at http://www.mysql.org and
http://www.php.net.

I have been interested in learning MySQL as well and found this link in my search.
