Railfan Technology > Normal scanners-Seligman and Needles SubDate: 04/17/14 06:59 Normal scanners-Seligman and Needles Sub Author: Winks I have always used a Radio Shack Pro 94 scanner for years on the BNSF Seligman and Needles Subs. Now over the past 6 months, it no longer picks up any talk at all. Some static bursts at times, never any conversation.
Locations were between Needles and Cadiz and in Flagstaff. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any comments. And Happy Easter. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/18/14 06:34 by Winks. Moving to digital could sound like a static burst or chip, just like the EOT transmissions. But I would think there would have been a lot more discussion on this site since that's a popular area. Date: 04/18/14 10:41 Re: Normal scanners Author: TCnR I'd be suspecting the antenna. The NWS signal may have been too nearby, too strong, to be a good indication. The other post suggests the RR hasn't changed anything.
If it's a rubber duck antenna, try removing it and placing something like a paper clip in the center pin. If the NWS comes in loud and clear, the original signal is really strong, which doesn't clear the antenna, but does prove the radio is functioning. I'd be thinking the antenna broke. ------------------------------------------------------- > NWS worked fine. Glad to hear scanners are still working. Next time I'll use the rubber duck or my outside antenna. |
