Railfan Technology > Renting high end digital cameras, lensesDate: 04/21/14 09:33 Renting high end digital cameras, lenses Author: Lackawanna484 There's an article in ReCode today about Lumoid, a firm which rents high end digital cameras and lenses. You can also buy the equipment, if you like. Their target market is the user who wants to try out equipment, or wants purpose specific equipment (25-300, f 3.5 lens, etc) that will only be used once or twice. They will also ship to your hotel, etc saving you the trouble of schlepping the camera and gear.
>>I opted to rent the Canon lens, the Sony camera body and the Sony lens for four days. Lumoid charged $43 per day, plus mandatory insurance, which cost $24, a flat shipping fee of $18 and, finally, taxes. The total was $178.95.<< BorrowLenses is another firm in the same business Has anyone done business with these guys? http://recode.net/2014/04/21/why-buy-a-digital-camera-when-you-can-rent/ Date: 04/21/14 09:59 Re: Renting high end digital cameras, lenses Author: NormSchultze There is also www.lensrentals.com.

I've had good results buying from Adorama over the years. Maybe I'll try the rentals. Thanks. If you live in the Atlanta area, they offer you the option to pickup instead of pay for shipping.

Samy's Camera also has rental departments in a half-dozen locations in California.
