Railfan Technology > Canon 5D Mark III - refurbished on sale at CanonDate: 06/28/14 23:52 Canon 5D Mark III - refurbished on sale at Canon Author: Mgoldman Thought I'd pass along this info -
I purchased a Canon factory direct refurbished 5D Mark III back in September after following prices for a few months. I love the camera and noted it showed less then 500 shutter activations. Still, in under a month, I had an issue with the camera shutting off for no reason. Sent it in for repair - it had a 1 year warranty. Came back like new surprisingly listing "new shutter" as the "parts". N/C. Anyway - problem free since - great camera. For the first time since then, the camera has gone on sale at a price lower then I've seen in over a year, if not two. $3,400.00 new $2,447.00 refurbished. http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-5d-mark-iii-body-refurbished /Mitch 6-29-2014 Date: 06/29/14 22:28 Re: Canon 5D Mark III - refurbished on sale at Canon Author: RyanWilkerson Thanks Mitch. My 5D2 is still chugging along but a 3 would be a nice upgrade.

You can sign up, state the camera you are interested in (Canon) and the price point and you'll get a heads up when it becomes available - new, refurb or even via an unauthorized seller. I kept my query going expecting to see the 5D Mark III would drop right after I bought it - it has not until now (9 months later) and that was only for the refurb. I'm amazed the 5D has actually only gone up in price since then for a new one. There was one left this afternoon - but refurbs come up sporadically on sale, every other month or so. /Mitch Date: 07/02/14 12:00 Re: Canon 5D Mark III - refurbished on sale at Canon Author: bioyans Mgoldman Wrote:

While I do want to pick up a 5D, I may wait and see if the rumblings of a Mark IV start increasing. In the meantime, there's a few other EF lenses I want to pick up, to fill out my kit a bit more before taking the full-frame plunge. Got the EF 24-70 f/2.8L II when they had the double dip rebates this spring, and I am finding it is quickly becoming my favorite. The new EF 16-35mm f/4L IS is intriguing, but I'm not sure if the increased corner sharpness is enough to warrant me selling off my 16-35 f/2.8L II in favor of a slightly slower lens. Considering the price the 5D Mark III has held for nearly two years. /Mitch Date: 07/02/14 19:15 Re: Canon 5D Mark III - refurbished on sale at Canon Author: mojaveflyer I can only imagine what the new camera would do. I bought a 5D MkII on a close out when they introduced the MkIII and got a killer deal on that. I still feel the MkII is several inches above my head in terms of capability of the equipment vs the photographer's...

Often lots of new features are added on to new cameras, likely GPS and perhaps a flip screen and while those are "fun" and useful, it's features such as better ISO (low light images) and possibly better color depth and dynamic range that can make a huge difference without any involvement on the photographers part what so ever. More and better focus points are nice too - faster focus lock and the ability to find a focus spot that does not require moving the camera to prefocus. And of course - more megapixels (more flexibility in cropping) and more frames per second - not hard to "learn" how to use those features. /Mitch |
