Railfan Technology > Scanner World, Albany NY ?

As long as I have had a scanner I have dealt with Scanner World in Albany NY, I have tried for the last several months to go on to their website and there is a message about a family illness and they hope to be back up and running soon. Does anyone know anything more about the store or if it will be back in operation ? Thanks.

I can't answer your question but I can offer an alternative. I have had very successful dealings with the HamRadio Outlet in Salem, NH. If you care to check them out, just use your favorite search engine to find them on the web. I believe they also have stores in a few other states: Delaware comes to mind.

I checked scannerworld USA last year and I checked it today still same message. I hope they come back as well. In the meantime Scannermaster.com might be good. I am in the market for a flexible antenna that is 17in tuned to the railroad band. My telescoping one from radioshack isn't quite as good anymore.

They have one in Woodbridge, VA. I've also had great luck dealing with them. Good company, they helped me set up my ATCS mobile rig many years ago and were very professional.

I think there is a chain of them??? When I needed something, they were very helpful and the store I called go it from another location.

Ham Radio Outlet, http://www.hamradio.com/ is one of the largest Amateur Radio suppliers in the nation with 12 stores scattered around the country. If you call one store and order something they don't have they will ship it from one of the stores that does have it in stock. Amateur Electronic Supply, http://www.aesham.com is not as big with 4 stores but they are also very good. Their stores are also networked together. There are some very good, but smaller suppliers around the country. R and L Electronics http://www.randl.com and Universal Radio, http://www.universal-radio.com/ are two smaller dealers that have good reputations. Prices are usually within a buck or two from dealer to dealer. One may be cheaper on the scanner but charge more for accessories or may charge for shipping. Bottom line, any of these are good places to shop. Over the years I have done business with all of them.
