Not sure how many cameras will be compatible with this one.

Imagine, 1/2 Terrabyte on media the size of a postage stamp or thumbnail.

How many of us have hard drives so much smaller than that? Mainframe computers were built with less capacity than this chip.

...and to think that I was excited to get a 20mb, 5-1/4" form factor hard drive for my home PC back in 1987....

This card with its 512GB capacity and it's speed of UHS 3 is primarily for 4K video recording. 4K, for home use, is called "4K Ultra HD" (3840x2160). The camera's used in the making of pro level movies have a resolution of 4096 pixels × 2160 lines creating a 8.8 megapixel, aspect ratio of 17:9 for 4K film projection.

One camera that will greatly benefit from this is the amazing Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. The camera is the size of a point & shoot, yet it has a large Super 16 sensor.

I upgraded from 4K (that K, not MEG) to 16K around 76 or 78 and it only cost me $150.00. The governments inflation calculator says $150 in 1977 would be just about $600 in today's money. We're amazed today but what are today's teens going to think is normal that we can't even imagine.

The bigger the card, the bigger the disappointment when it goes bad.

I download every day when travelling because you know what they say about "too many eggs in one basket".

Same here Bill - most every night I will import from the cameras to the laptop, and then also copy to an external hard drive (one of the little pocket USB powered drives that are about $90 for one terabyte). Maybe a bit paranoid, but just one glitch and your photos can be gone forever :).
