Railfan Technology > Pocket chargersDate: 01/20/15 07:08 Pocket chargers Author: sums007 I asked about the possibility of charging my scanner while on an upcoming train trip, and one poster suggested I buy a pocket charger. I've never heard of pocket chargers. How do they work, and will they charge my handheld scanner for a three-day train trip?
Date: 01/20/15 10:51 Re: Pocket chargers Author: 251F Depends on the battery requirement. What is the voltage output of the "wall wort" that came with your scanner? If you're riding Amtrak, generally there are 120v outlets scattered around the cars. Topic has been discussed here before.
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,1903334 This pocket charger is only for "USB" charge (5v) type devices. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=25585&ss=427793 d. Edited 1 time(s). If you are going to be somewhere without AC power you might consider solar chargers. Just google "solar battery charger." You might add "aa" if you use AA size batteries or "12" if you need 12 volts. There are also some chemical chargers that use salt and water (search "salt water battery charger") I think to generate enough power to charge a set of batteries but they are not as common. I have no idea about their worth or reliability.
