Railfan Technology > Data Archiving Issue -- SSDs can lose data in 7 days w/o powerDate: 05/14/15 19:52 Data Archiving Issue -- SSDs can lose data in 7 days w/o power Author: E25 I'm not sure if this is new news to techies, but I received an "Extreme Tech" bulletin today via e-mail that warned that "SSDs can lose data in as little as 7 days without power"

Ryan Wilkerson Fair Oaks, CA Date: 05/15/15 11:06 Re: Data Archiving Issue -- SSDs can lose data in 7 days w/o powe Author: jkh2cpu I have SSDs in all of my machines (five) and permanent
storage of essential images is kept on a WD World Book with spinning platters. Two of my machines with SSDs are laptops that see sporadic use, and I also have a 'road' machine that gets occasional use. I've never had a problem with the SSDs in these machines. I am thinking that after four years of constant use on several machines I need to replace the SSDs before I loose my sweet @ss. John. Not quite as fast as a straight SSD but a good compromise and probably safer for data storage.
