Author: Frisco1522 I'm still chugging along with Photoshop CS2 and am wondering if the stuff I do to restore old negs, etc, is available in these two and which would be the better choice?

a good proposition. You find it best at their website: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ find a suitable mirror, choose gimp-2.8, and then choose windows. gimp-2.8.14 is the latest. I've been using it in linux for maybe 15 years and find it quite satisfactory. It does require a bit of learning, but heck! It's free, and it will blow the pants off of a lot of other graphics programs. *DO NOT* do an internet search, and download from a site other than the gimp one, as you are likely to also download garbage: it's a popular program among graphics types, and lowlifes will try to capitalize on the uninitiated downloading their junk... Author: Frisco1522 It dawned upon me that I already have Corel Paint in a student Corel Draw suite I bought a few months ago. It's very similar to Photoshop. I think I can download a trial of Photoshop Elements and see how it looks.

Author: jbwest I have never used Paint and it has been awhile since I used CS2 (reluctantly bought CS5 when newer hard and software were incompatible with CS2). And I occasionally use Elements on my laptop. In my experience the big difference between CS and Elements is in color adjustment tools. But if you are working with B&W negs that should make no difference. Elements is a hell of deal of the money. Paint may be even a better deal of the money.

Chris Date: 07/09/15 18:59 Re: Photoshop Elements 13 vs Corel Paint Shop 7? Author: Frisco1522 Thanks guys. I downloaded a trial of Elements 13 and have been playing around with it. Seems to do everything I want it to do.
