FujiFilm price increase.
Author: K3HX

Heard from a reliable source Fuji will increase the price of colour reversal (slide and transparency)
35mm roll through 8x10 sheet film in October.

Be Well,

It's already at $10. a roll and another $10.50 for a mailer to have it developed.  How much do they think people are willing to pay before they say enough is enough?

Here in Southern Ontario try the following for a roll of Provia 100, 36 exposure:
retail per roll C$18.50, Processing add another C$21.00 IF you can find a lab
that processes E-6. Onttop of those prices add 13 percent sales tax.

It adds up, real fast.

I get my imaging materials from the wall outlet, at a very reasonable price.  Electrons are a real bargain, and I don't have to mail order them.

Film is no longer sold in the huge volumes to provide the economies of scale to manufacturers. There are no other manufacturers in the market to offer competition.

Be thankful Fujifilm is still around with quality products to support film users.

A local lab once quoted me $31 to process a roll of E-6. I don't remember what the reason was but I didn't want to use a mailer for that particular roll (it may be that I didn't have one available), but even though they busted it down to the "student price" of $24, it was the last roll I ever had processed locally.

I agree.  I still like shooting slides.  I shoot a lot of digital as well, and I definitely prefer digital over anything shot in less than perfect sun, but with all of today's look alike engine consists I'll usually try to get a shot on each format at a location - after a while it all runs together.  When I started shooting slides in 1973 you could shoot multiple trains at a single location and every one would have a different looking lead engine (F7A, GP7, SD45, U25B, GP35, etc).  Since I don't burn thru a roll of slide film on a single roster shot like I did in the 70's and 80's it's not a budget buster.

Film is minor expense when you consider travel costs to shoot the photos in the first place.  Gas, hotel, food, rental car/air if you're going out of town....in comparison film is not a big expense.  And it makes one much more selective when banging off a photo of something.  Personally, I use digital for everything except trains.  When Fuji quits making film I will have shot my last train picture.
