Left click the Windows flag in the lower left corner. Choose (all apps) Scroll down to Windows Accessories and right click. From the drop down find Word Pad, Note Pad and Sticky Notes. For each right click on the icon then select (Pin to Start) from the drop down. The icons will show up in the tiles where you can drag them around in the tile pile to where you want them. There might be a way to put them on the desktop but in the tiles they are only two clicks away when you need them.

A second option is Pin to Taskbar and the icon will show up at the bottom of the desktop for one click activation.
