Anti-Drone device.

Just read about a trend to snoop on a home's wireless set-up using a drone. Apparently the Gov't version has been around for a while but now the hacker's have started using them to snoop on home networks. The article had 'VPN' in the title.

The problem is that drones share RF spectrum with many other kinds of uses.  That jamming device won't be as pinpoint as the gun stock implies.  Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the FCC puts a stop to using such a device.  My guess is they might.

This might not have made national news, but if you remember, Google Maps vehicles were snooping on home networks simultaneously, and a cease and desist order was issued to Google for that practice.

I wonder if the anti-drone device works similar in principle to illegal cell phone jamming devices, overwhelming a certain radio frequency with enough noise to render devices unusable? The behavior described in the article implies it, where the drone is forced to go into a "fail safe" mode.

Yep, agree with the Google thing. The idea comes up every few years with open wireless and no password in the general neighborhoods. The story was someone was adding their own password.

Another someone had a disrupter device for shutting down vehicles during a car chase, etc. haven't heard much about that lately. Think it was on 60 minutes so it must be true. Aiming such a device into the air would be an issue with the FAA folks as well.

I have heard of people using "LTADD's" (Low-Tech Anti-Drone Device). See photo...

Sure, this simple solution always comes up. Remember the discharge of any firearm within the city limits is against the law. Shoot down the flying object, go to jail and get fined.

While you may have intended it as a joke, sadly many people have and will do this.

You may think so but so many others think otherwise and are serious about blowing them out of the sky using a firearm.

So... does Batelle's "DroneDefender" work against military drones and cruise missles?  (This could be imteresting.)

I don't think shooting at a Reaper with a shotgun would be a smart move.

" It does so by either disrupting remote control or GPS navigation." Sounds like they can jam the GPS signal. I think they can get in big trouble for that.

Battelle is a major US government special projects contractor, and the item shown in the video is clearly a USML-type device (United States Munitions List). If you think it will be available for use by just anybody, think again!
