HD camera to display hidden areas on crew lounge TV
Author: 4thDistrict

I recently upgraded to a 42" HD TV in the crew lounge for my HO scale layout. I had a camera connected to the old CRT TV that monitored a key location on the layout for the enjoyment of anyone sitting in the lounge. I now want to upgrade that camera to an HD camera for a better image. I have component and composit inputs available, but can use an HDMI input as a last resort. The camera will be about 30 feet from the TV. The smaller the better since it needs to be hidden in a building.

Does anyone have recommendations on which camera to purchase?

Thanks!
Rick

Marshall Electronics make some affordable and tiny HD cameras.  You won't get HD resolution using the composite or component video inputs.  Because HDMI has severe distance limitations, these cameras output HD-SDI (serial digital) over coax.  There are converters to change from SDI to HDMI to plug into your TV.  The whole system will cost around $700.
