If you can get NHK World (from Japan, on many cable systems here), you should check out their Railway Journals show.  Hosted from a 'bar' in Tokyo that is a large train set-up on and around the bar, with Shinkansens rolling by, as well as steam trains.  They look at several railroads each program from all over Japan.  Very interesting!
