Midwestern Variety

Over the last few months, I've gathered up a sizeable group of images, of which have one common theme - variety! If you've been considering visiting Kansas City/Lincoln/St. Louis or somewhere else in the midwest for a railfanning trip, but aren't quite convinced, perhaps this post will 'sway' your decision...

1. NS SD40-2 3388 leads MOW train 913-04 East, under the US 65 overpass at Carrollton, MO - 5/04/15
2. BNSF 7157 leads train M KCKGAL1 09A through the Old Union Depot Interlocker, on the approach the Missouri River at Hannibal Crossing - Kansas City, MO - 5/09/15
3. A grain shuttle bound for Dana, IA rolls North towards a crew change at the UP Quindaro Fuel pad, with NS 1074 - the DLW heritage unit - 2nd out - Fairfax, KS - 5/15/15

4. A brace of older EMDs - 2 BNSF & 2 UP - roll West with a Neff Yard to 18th Street transfer at Broadway - Kansas City, MO - 5/15/15
5. 'BS' 4703, a CREX ES44AC and a CSXT CW40-8 roll through Santa Fe Jct, with an inbound 'KCK' train from points North - Kansas City, MO - 5/15/15
6. Splitting the ex. WAB searchlight signals at ESS Mettler, NS train D1Z-16 rolls East towards Moberly, behind an ex. SOU GP38-2 and a GP60 - De Witt, MO - 5/16/15

7. AMTK A4 16 screams towards the MO Rte. UU overpass just outside Standish, with the full dome 'Ocean View' behind the power - Bosworth, MO - 5/18/15
8. A pair of displaced 'coal motors' lead BNSF train H LINKCK1 16A through the community of Rushville, MO - 5/18/15
9. Looking good in some evening light, BNSF GP39-2 2789 leads train M KCMSJO1 18A under the 'Q' era cantilever signal at E. Armour - Armour, MO - 5/18/15

10. A former ATSF B40-8W and a BN painted GP40M lead the Ravenna Line local West at Pleasant Dale, NE - 5/21/15
11. A pair of CSXT standard cabs lead UP train AASAMX24 under the MO HWY 7 overpass at Pleasant Hill, MO - 5/24/15 
12. Sapulpa, OK oil loads roll towards the ex. Frisco Rosedale Yard at CP 30th Street behind CSXT & BNSF power - Kansas City, KS - 5/25/15

13. A set of 5 SD40-2s roll West along UP's KC Metro Subdivision at Broadway, with a transfer from UP's Neff Yard in tow - 5/27/15
14. One of the GECX tier 4 ES44ACs leads BNSF train H NTWKCK4 30A past the ATSF timetable location of Floyd - Orrick, MO - of note are the trailing RCPE SD40-2s, which were en route to the AZER for long term lease - 5/31/15
15. BNSF 969 leads a pair of GP39-2s and a CIT SD60 on a Kansas City, KS - Wellington, KS manifest train at Le Loup, KS - 6/11/15

16. UP's MOP heritage unit - UP 1982 - serves as a DPU on train IDULB20, as it snakes through downtown Lee's Summit, MO - 6/20/15
17. Rolling past fertile Kansas farmland, UP train MINNP23 tackles Shannon Hill just North of Atchison, KS - 6/24/15
18. Looking good with wings on the nose, UP SD60M 2269 leads train MSIKC26 past the incline track at Broadway, minutes from its terminus of UP's Neff Yard in Kansas City, MO - 6/27/15

19. In a scene that would make Alfred Hitchcock shed a tear, dozens of barn swallows circle aimlessly as NS train 272-29 rolls East past a smoke-filled sunset at Carrollton, MO - 6/29/15
20. Just over 20 minutes off the advertised, AMTK A3 29 rolls West under the MO Rte UU bridge at Bosworth, MO, as seen from this 20 second exposure - 6/29/15
21. A pair of ex. BN SW1500s await for a signal to shove North at aptly named BN XING, operating under the symbol Y KCM1191 08A - 7/08/15

22. KCS 4051 & CSXT 8145 power UP train AAMEW10 as it rolls South through BN XING and onto the BNSF Ft. Scott Subdivision, to Paola, KS - where it will join the UP Parsons Subdivision and 'home rails' for the trip to Engelwood - Kansas City, MO - 7/10/15
23. With the city of Cheyenne and the 'front range' in the distance, a pair of UP trains meet at the top of Archer Hill under beautiful skies - Archer, WY - 7/18/15
24. A pair of 'bluebonnet' SD40-2s lead a BNSF Argentine to UP Neff transfer East (directional North) through Santa Fe Jct, past Kemper as a UP coal load for Texas rolls across the highline towards the Kennefick bridge in the background - Kansas City, MO - 7/23/15

25. A KCT (Kansas City Terminal) transfer from NS' Avondale Yard returns to Mill Street, as it passes the boarded up tower at the Adams Street Interlocker - Kansas City, KS - 7/27/15

What's not to like, its all here!!  But there's there's always that one in the bunch that stands out, for me it's that NS coming through the Wabash signals coming long hood forward and some smoke on top, that's what I dig baby!
