CSXT-CREX-CSXT Westbound on the Moffat
Author: SP8595

I couldn't have timed it any better this afternoon as just as I got off from work, I spotted BNSF's Denver to Provo manifest train departing Denver with the CSXT 3052, CREX 1408, CSXT 702.
This was a "no-brainer" so the chase was on! Unfortunately when we have very mild weather like we had in Denver today, it is usually accompanied by these wave clouds that form East of the Continental Divide and today was no exception. I passed on some non-descript shots of the train leaving Denver in diffused sunlight and then headed up to Blue Mtn. crossing.

The plan was to park on the road and then hike up a hill to get the city of Denver in the background behind the train. Only problem was when I arrived, I noticed a large herd of Elk in the field that I wanted to walk across! I thought now that would be a neat picture if I could get the Elk in the foreground so I drove a little further West on Hwy. 72, scrambled up a steep hill and then started to climb the hill that was West of the Elk. Unfortunately when they saw me, they started to retreat from the tracks so I quickly back tracked and took another route up the hill where I was hidden from the Elk. I waited until the I heard the train sounding the horn for the crossing and then walked across to the other side of the hill and was somewhat surprised to see that most of the Elk were still standing by the tracks even as the train was passing by!

1)The interesting trio of engines pass by a herd of Elk at Blue Mtn. Crossing. Sure wish the Sun was out:{

2)CSXT 3052, CREX 1408 and CSXT 702.

3)The train continues to head Westbound and is about to enter Tunnel #1.

I continued to chase the train and found Sunlight!

Didn't think it was possible for you to outdo yourself (again). I was wrong. That first shot is absolutely nuts, and the rest of them are just as good.

Indeed!  Nice angles all around, John.  I like seeing foreign power in settings different from that of their home rails.

Another primo chase with outstanding results, great choice of pines. You only missed a few shots from here and there tonight as well as burgers and brats which you could have gotten another time but this consist I think not. Good choice. Although D's chase of the KYLE in deep snow was pretty impressive but so are these shots.
